Check number-transfer eligibility first Ask both providers about MNP, subscriber-name matching, and whether a reservation number or online one-stop transfer is required. Do not cancel the old voice line before completing the transfer.
Plan the activation window Keep the old SIM and account details until the new provider confirms the switch. Allow for downtime and retain Wi-Fi access. Install or activate the replacement SIM according to the carrier's instructions.
Check the final bill and device balance Confirm billing dates, whether the final month is prorated, any exit or reissue fees, and remaining device installments. Porting a number does not erase what you owe on the handset.
Update verification before giving up a number Change the phone number or recovery method on banks, payment apps, and other important accounts before cancellation. If leaving Japan, keep a working payment method for the final bill.
Get cancellation or transfer confirmation Check which services terminate automatically after MNP and which add-ons remain. For outright cancellation, follow the carrier's notice procedure and retain the confirmation.

General information only. Confirm current plans, identity requirements, compatibility, coverage, payment methods, and cancellation terms with the provider before applying.
